Abstract

Five aliphatic Schiff base nickel complexes have been prepared using previously reported methods but increasing the percentage yields wherever possible. Three of these five Schiff bases were reduced by hydrogenation with platinum catalysts producing three previously unreported cyclic tetramine nickel complexes. One of the remaining two Schiff base complexes was reduced electrolytically for the first time. From reports on previous work with this fourth cyclic tetramine nickel complex it was expected that cyanide treatment of the three previously unreported cyclic tetramine nickel complexes would readily cause the precipitation of the cyclic tetramines. This was not found to be the case and an explanation for the non-precipitation is presented.
