Abstract

This report looks at Earth-shelter Architecture in the New Zealand context: the extent to which it has been adopted in this country and what potential it has to develop into a successful industry. The aesthetic merits of Earth-shelter Architecture have enormous relevance in a country noted for its natural beauty. Tins country has led the world in many areas and taken a bold stance on many issues. Conceivably New Zealand could achieve further notoriety by accepting the earth-shelter lifestyle. At first glance there appears to be no problem with Earth-shelter architecture being introduced as a valid alternative to the New Zealand lifestyle. This report however is concerned with the practical problems of such an endeavour. There are many surprising discoveries relating to this and the reader would do well to begin with an open mind.
