Abstract
This paper investigates the spiritual connection between the Maori and his ancestors and the affect that this may have on an architect. It begins with defining spiritualism and moves on to show spiritualism in the life of the Maori. The final chapter consists of a field study of a group of young designers on a marae and examines instances where an architect may find himself confronted by Maori spiritualism. The paper aims to educate the architect on some of the more simple aspects of Maori spiritualism and perhaps prepare him/her in some ways for a marae visit.
