Abstract
This report investigates the primary issues pertaining to the discourse of Regionalism in general and Critical Regionalism in particular. The main content of this report presents the various arguments put forward by writers on Regionalism with emphasis on the writings of Kenneth Frampton and the Malaysian architect Ken Yeang. Frampton's essay Towards A Critical Regionalism: Six Points for an Architecture of Resistance (1983) is used as a theoretical framework which will inform the general content of this report.
The positions postulated by both Frampton and Ken Yeang are analyzed and tested against each other. Differences and similarities in opinion, strategy or approach are identified. In doing so the expectation is that a clearer and identifiable direction can be revealed in the pursuit of contextually sensitive architecture.
