Abstract

During the last war organophosphorus compounds were developed for use as nerve gases. It was during this period that Gerhard Schrader discovered their usefulness in agriculture as insecticides. In 1959 it was estimated that 50,000 organophosphorus compounds had been made and many new ones have been reported monthly since then (72).
