dc.description.abstract | This study illustrates the use of intensive experimental design, where a single subject is monitored on a number of variables, taking repeated measures over time. Here, a depressed patient was monitored by daily taking ratings on self report data, making behaviourial observations and recording physiological data of skin level potential, pulse and respiration rates. The recordings began a few days after admission and continued until the alleviation of his condition occurred. The analysis focussed primarily on the pattern of trend over time. The contribution of this form of study both as a source of theoretical information and as an adjunct to clinical practice was pointed out. The problems relating to the statistical analysis and the limitations of traditional analysis procedures to meet the requirements of this experimental design were discussed. | en_NZ |
