Children's book selection for the multicultural communities in New Zealand : evaluating Japanese juvenile collections in public libraries

Abstract

This research report is about the children's book collection public libraries cater for the Japanese ethnic group living in New Zealand. Chapter 1 expresses the research problem and deficiencies, and its objectives for the studies. It states the significance of this research project and also the benefits of this research that will contribute to the communities of New Zealand. There are several relevant research questions for this research project. The first question is "do children's resources public libraries deliver and meet all communities need and want?" The second question is "do those contexts appropriately express the ethnic cultures to readers?" The third question is "do the collections of Porirua Libraries, Hutt City Libraries and Wellington City Libraries reflect the Japanese culture and needs of Japanese children in the regions?" Last but not least, the question is "is the collection size and quality appropriate to Japanese children readers in the communities?"
