dc.description.abstract This project investigates the needs of Chinese patrons and current library collections and services provided to Chinese users in public libraries in Auckland Region. The aim of this project is to analyse the needs of Chinese users, and fill the research gap of whether collections and services in public libraries in Auckland Region can meet the needs of Chinese patrons. Based on identified research problems and reviewed literature, the researcher employed a mixed qualitative and quantitative research method for this project. The researcher conducted a questionnaire survey to the Chinese community in Auckland Region and also interviewed library staff and Chinese patrons and non-patrons to assess Chinese immigrants' information needs and to assess the current collections and services available to Chinese patrons. Based on survey findings and interview analysis, the research concludes that despite the positive aspects of library services and collections, there is potential to increase Chinese collections and improve services for Chinese users. Recommendations on increasing collections of Chinese resources and improving services such as information literacy training, guides in Chinese and increasing Chinese staff, are provided. The significance of this research will be in the benefit provided to Chinese patrons as well as to public libraries in Auckland Region. en_NZ
