dc.description.abstract The province of Otago is located in the South Island (Te Wai Pounamu) of New Zealand/Aotearoa. A region known for its' wide variations in climate of coastal sea winds to the continental micro-climates of the Central Otago wine growing areas. It also has a mixture of geology, geography and topography, ranging from the steep volcanic hills of the Otago Peninsula, to the rolling peneplains of the Maniototo region, continuing onwards to the jutting mountains of the southern tip of the Southern Alps. The uniqueness and variations of the Otago landscape has inspired artists of the camera, the canvas and the word. Many have sought to capture and describe this stunning landscape and to evoke reflections of this region in their audience's minds; to convey photo prints, the canvas and the book, the views that they, the artists see. Pictures tell a thousand words, as the saying goes, and this annotated bibliography will act as a portal to the wealth of pictorial information within the Hocken Library, as well as other libraries around New Zealand. The images within a book are a fascinating way to view the growth and development of the Otago region. The images that have been captured over the years illustrate the changes to the places and townships and how the people within the province react and interact with their environment. en_NZ
