dc.description.abstract This comprehensive bibliography lists sources relating to women and their activities in the province of Wellington during the pioneer period of European settlement (1830-1915). Published works containing primary material, as well as unpublished manuscripts written by women of any age or ethnic background, are included. While material written by or about men is valuable for the study of early Wellington and can also shed light on society's gender expectations, it falls outside the scope of this bibliography. The province of Wellington comprises all of the North Island south of the thirty-ninth parallel, east of a line from Patea to the Wanganui River and running along the course of the river, but excluding the Hawke's Bay province. The eastern-most boundary of the province runs from the east coast near Cape Turnagain to the Manawatu Gorge, and along the crest of the ranges to the thirty-ninth parallel. en_NZ
