dc.description.abstract The purpose of this case study was to explore collection management decision making by library managers in a sample group of nine law firm libraries in Auckland. As a qualitative methodology underpinned the study, the researcher sought to obtain a rich and deep understanding from the participants through semi structured interviews. These took place in March and early April 2008. Interview transcripts, along with observational notes, and collection policies made available, were coded and analysed looking for themes. Findings indicate that law firm library collections are geared very much to the practice areas of the firm but decisions made about management of the collection are dominated by annual cycles, the balancing of hard copy and electronic resources, and space. Formal collection management policies do not really feature whereas informal rules and procedures are predominant in collection management activities. en_NZ
