dc.description.abstract Significant amount of literature has covered the issues and implications concerning cataloguing at various cultural institutions and some specifically touch on visual images. However, the bulk of the literature is limited to overseas examples. Hence, there is no in-depth case study of digital visual image cataloguing in New Zealand. Without a systematic analysis of metadata records, little can be learnt of how cultural heritage institutions in New Zealand have gone about cataloguing their visual image collections for online accessibility, interoperability and long-term security. This study on the current practices of digital visual image cataloguing in New Zealand seeks to fill in the identified gap in the literature. en_NZ
