dc.description.abstract Today, due to the rapid development ofthe information society, there is an essential need for human resources, particularly high quality library and information management human resources in the world in general, and in Vietnam in particular. In fact, in today's information age, information and knowledge becomes the main motivator in the development of all fields in socio-economical life. The abilities of knowledge and information managers are essential for combating information overload. This demand has set up many opportunities and challenges for the library and information science (LIS) field, especially for LIS educators who are responsible for educational programmes to provide qualified future knowledge and information managers. This study was a case study on LIS education, especially LIS master's degree programmes in Vietnam and in New Zealand, to examine whether these programmes could meet the demands of the current situation. The main focus of the study was the comparison of the two curriculum frameworks and an analysis of factors that have impacted on the quality of LIS education. en_NZ
