dc.description.abstract This investigation used content analysis to examine the published articles in two New Zealand medical journals from 1986-1995. Analyses measured the occurrence of articles on particular subjects as well as authorship details such as gender, geographic location, whether they were academics or practitioners and the number of citations they made. Findings showed no outstanding trends in subjects covered, a trend towards collaborative authorship and a minority of female first authors. The value of this study lies in the fact that no other content analysis has been conducted on the New Zealand medical literature and that it begins to outline the publishing trends of this profession in New Zealand. en_NZ
