dc.description.abstract This research project examined the current issues facing Auckland's public library systems with regard services to the elderly. This is particularly with Auckland's aging population, particularly as the "baby boomers" move into their later years. Each library was examined to determine what services they currently have and their success in serving the elderly community. The study examines four public library systems in the Auckland Region. These include Auckland City Libraries, Manukau Libraries, North Shore Libraries and Waitakere Libraries. This was to determine what similarities and differences occur between libraries in different areas. As a result, it was determined that there are four standard services targeting the needs of the elderly. These include mobile libraries, audio books, large print and housebound services. The marketing and special events is vital for Auckland's public libraries to reach their community. With the advances in technology, this area will be more readily to the elderly in the future. There are a number of ideas as to where public libraries are going with their services. It will be interesting to "watch this space" as public libraries develop there services and resources to meet the needs of the elderly in the 21st Century. en_NZ
