dc.description.abstract In the past there has been much debate about the merit of children's formula fiction series and whether it is worthy of a place on the shelves of public libraries. However there has been a great deal of literature written about how children's formula fiction series can do much to aid reluctant readers, some going as far as saying they may encourage the development of life-long readers. Much of the evidence on the disapproval of children's formula fiction series has been historical and anecdotal. This study explores the opinions of children's librarians and/or selectors of children's material to see if their attitudes reflect this disapproval, through a mixed method questionnaire. It also explores collection management policies for children and young adult collections to see if there is any mention in collection management policies that indicate that formula fiction series for children should be included or excluded for any particular reason. Findings seem to indicate that children's librarians and selectors in New Zealand believe there are positive aspects to children's formula fiction series and there is a place for them in New Zealand public libraries. en_NZ
