dc.description.abstract The species studied were the Mallard Duck Anas platyrhynchos, Grey Duck A. superciliosa, Shoveller Duck A. rhynchotis, Paradise Duck Casarca variegata, Black Swan Chenopsis atrata, and the Pukeko, Porphyrio poliocephalus. Observations on the life history; results of banding, including hunting pressure, sex ratio and mobility; an analysis of weights and measurements of a sample population; and food analysis have been discussed, with particular reference to the Grey and Mallard Ducks. Factors affecting the numerical status, such as reduction of breeding and feeding territory and excessive shooting have been outlined. en_NZ
