dc.description.abstract This report is divided into five sections. It shows the development of wall bracing for timber framed construction in New Zealand and explains the structural characteristics of different methods of wall bracing. As an example of a future wall bracing system, different glass wall bracing systems are proposed and discussed. Finally, the report considers how the bracing potential of new materials or methods of construction can be assessed and it sets out a procedure of implementation for a new system. This report is the result of considerable research and is based on extensive reading, communications with a wide range of building material and component manufacturers, and discussions with prominent local engineers. en_NZ
