dc.description.abstract This report gives an introduction to what earth building in New Zealand is about; its past and present (1980) with reference mainly to rammed earth (Pisé de terre) and soil cement. The results of visits to several houses are documented and the wider issues of thermal and structural suitability in New Zealand are discussed in relation to the relevant codes, standards and bylaws, including the situation regarding Local Authority approval for building. en_NZ
