dc.description.abstract The main purpose of this thesis is to present evidence concerning the gambling behaviour of some student groups, to give an indication of some of their attitudes to gambling and to draw tentative conclusions from these and other data. The main problems which presented themselves were: 1. How widespread is gambling in the groups chosen? 2. What reasons have been advanced to explain why people gamble and to what extent do these reasons apply to the selected groups? 3. In what ways do the gambling members of these groups do most of their gambling? 4. What are the essential differences in attitude between those who gamble and those who do not gamble within these groups? en_NZ
