dc.description.abstract This study explored individual's perspectives of music therapy. It was set in an acute adolescent in patient unit. Participants were staff and clients recruited from the facility. Five participants were interviewed (three staff and two clients). Verbatim transcripts of the interviews were used as raw data. A thematic analysis of the data drew out commonalities in the interviews. The themes that emerged were discussed in relation to the two groups of participants (staff and clients) with reflection on existing literature in music therapy related fields. Findings in the study demonstrate music therapy as a valued intervention on the unit from the perspective of those interviewed; and highlight a need to communicate more effectively to those outside the discipline ideas regarding music therapy. en_NZ
