dc.description.abstract This report provides an introduction to the art of the Japanese garden which includes a study on its history and origin, the relationship between the traditional Japanese home and garden, some of the more important composition concepts involved with garden design and some of the more common elements used in the Japanese garden. The case study is an illustration of a garden in Wellington which has been directly influenced by Japanese garden design. This case study together with other illustrations will help to identify applicable ideas for the Wellington garden from Japanese influenced garden design. en_NZ
