dc.description.abstract The report is about the redevelopment of the main street of Wanganui, Victoria Avenue. The report investigates whether the Main Street organisation has been successful in its attempt to exploit the wealth of buildings, of Heritage value in the Central Business District. The report outlines Wanganui and Victoria Avenue in a historical perspective from its settlement to the present day, to provide a context for the street's redevelopment. The buildings deemed worthy of heritage value are described with a brief history given for each. The Main Street Program and its process, is outlined giving an indication of the involvement of various parties and their attempt to exploit the wealth of buildings in Wanganui. Recommendations for future development of the street are given with the conclusions at the end of the report. en_NZ
