dc.description.abstract This research report investigates public seating design with specific reference to commercial reception areas. It surveys the history of Modern seating and provides a critical review of locally marketed chairs and reception area design in addition to outlining ergonomic principles that relate to public seating. The research is concluded with a proposal for a chair design which in the author's view meets the aesthetic, market and ergonomic requirements discussed in the body of the report. en_NZ
