Noise control in building: aspects of noise and noise control: examples of electronic simulation of sound reduction characteristics

Abstract

This report is an attempt to contribute usefully to the resource material available for the education of architects and others involved in solving noise problems in buildings. It consists of three parts. The first provides information on noise, its effects, common noise sources, methods of measuring noise, sound transmission, and noise control. This is the result of a survey of available literature. Readers are referred to the sources for more detailed information. The second part describes how electronic simulation of various acoustic phenomena can be used in education, research, and design work, and includes a demonstration of the simulation of airborne noise control. The third part consists of a collection of cassettes, which will form the basis of a library of noises, to be used in the Acoustics Laboratory at the School of Architecture, Victoria University of Wellington.
