dc.description.abstract With the redevelopment and infill of many urban spaces has come increasing public awareness of the improved environmental quality gained from planting in those urban spaces causing visual and psychological uneasiness. In both new and existing developments it is important that the spaces between buildings be considered with equal importance so that pleasant outdoor spaces are available as an extension of both the work and living areas. This report considers some important functional roles that planting can have in urban environments, and demonstrates the validity and application of their use with examples. en_NZ
