dc.description.abstract This report serves as a source of guidelines for architects and New Zealand Electricity landscape architects involved in the design of colour schemes for substations. It is divided into three parts. Part 1 establishes the background of the study by giving a general description of substations, their visual impact and their problem in the environment with respect to colour. Part 2 discusses the factors to be considered when making decision on colour for substations and the principles which can be used in the design of colour schemes. Based on criteria generated from Part 2, Part 3 goes on to look at some existing substations and propose suitable colour schemes for them. Practical aspects of colour design which include field study and presentation techniques are also discussed. en_NZ
