dc.description.abstract Representing the building during design is a critical problem for architects. Methods of representation during this process, perspectives, plans, elevations and sections are widely used by architects and because they are skilled in these techniques they have complete control over the image of the building they portray. Representing the building after completion is also a critical problem for architects, photographers and critics. Photography is widely used by these people to portray their image of the building. If it is wished to portray an honest or chosen image of a building using photography then the academic questions and relevant techniques of architectural photography must be understood. This report investigates the uses and categories of architectural photography and shows its important role in the profession. Secondly the report shows the importance of the photographer in presenting an honest impression of the subject. Finally the report provides a manual of assistance for those wishing to portray an architectural subject with a chosen image. In the final section of the report case studies are used to show practical portrayal of an architectural subject with a chosen image. en_NZ
