Influences on Wellington's recent domestic architecture

Abstract

This report is a pilot study of those factors which have influenced recent domestic architecture in New Zealand. My research method was designed to gather comment from the people directly associated with this architecture and to study a small group of examples to substantiate their comments. I present a report which gives some background to New Zealand architecture and the formation of Wellington city, together with those factors which influence the architects and their clients. A summary analysis of the design factors which influenced recent domestic architecture in Wellington is given in Chapter 6, followed by my general conclusions in Chapter 7. A brief description of the houses studied is given in the Appendix section.
