dc.description.abstract This is an investigation into contemporary Southern Californian Architecture. A question exist whether or not a 'style' exists. Primarily it looks at what is happening in the current works of three acclaimed architectural practices- Frank O. Gehry, Thom Mayne and Micheal Rotundi of Morphosis and Eric Owen Moss. It looks at the relationships of people and place as the primary reason for an abundance of innovation in Southern California. A section looks at the historical backround of innovative architecture in the region architecture and why has it has been so in earlier times. The result indicates that there is not necessarily a style but rather a common philosophy behind their work. The idea of questioning convention, the normative and what you know. en_NZ
