dc.description.abstract The general purpose of this study is to examine and explain the movement of the Africans between the Native and the European farms, mines and towns in Southern Rhodesia. The thesis is based mainly on personal observation on the field. Statistics compiled and issued by the Central Statistical Office in Salisbury; the Southern Rhodesia Government Reports; and the publications of the Rhodes-Livingstone Institute, Lusaka, provided the major sources of material used in this work. The Author is grateful to the Geography Department, Victoria University, for its generous assistance in obtaining a considerable amount of statistical information from the Central Statistical Office, Salisbury. Additional material from Southern Rhodesia was also obtained on behalf of the Author by the Department of Statistics, Wellington, as well as by the General Assembly Library. en_NZ
