dc.description.abstract Outdoor recreation, which includes both active team sports and a variety of informal recreational activities See Chapter VI for details, offers many advantages through participation to all age groups. It provides an outlet for some emotional and creative desires and it is at once both subjective and objective. This and following chapters deal with the degree of satisfaction of these drives and desires by investigating the existing Hutt Valley recreational facilities. The physical environment has been a major factor in the development and location of the various types of recreational areas. The Hutt Valley area described here includes the area from Manor Park Golf Course as far as the Petone Foreshore. The eastern and western boundaries of this flat area are also the limit of settlement in these areas All future reference to the term 'Hutt Valley' shall refer to this specific area. These physical boundaries have been chosen as they approximate closely to the boundaries of the Petone Borough and Lower Hutt City Councils which control the outdoor recreational facilities of the Hutt Valley. en_NZ
