dc.description.abstract On 4th June 1963, Mr R.S. Von Kohorn announced the intention of the company he represented, Von Kohorn International, to establish a plant to produce continuous nylon filament yarn at Shannon, 70 miles north of Wellington. A month later, Mr N.G. Wilson, Managing Director of Fibremakers Limited of Australia, informed the public of his firm's intention to build a nylon spinning plant at Wiri, 131/2 miles south of Auckland. These two factories would be able to supply virtually all of New Zealand's requirements of nylon yarn. See Part One, Chapter Four, Section C. The location decisions are essentially the responsibility of the firm. The Von Kohorn Group (henceforth the present trade name, Enzlon Chemical Fibres Limited, will be used in this study) chose a 20 acre site, a mile or more from the nearest town, Shannon (1,540) Estimates of population for April 1965, and approximately 12 miles from Levin (10,850) Estimates of population for April 1965. en_NZ
