dc.description.abstract The area considered in this work (Fig. I ) is that covered by N.Z.O.I. Campbell, Pukaki, Auckland and Macquarie charts (folder). It covers some 500,000 sq. miles between latitudes 48° and 57°30,S and longitudes 157° and 180°E. Bathymetric surveys of the seafloor south of New Zealand, show the normally abrupt transition from continental shelf to deep sea floor to be replaced by a broad marginal plateau in intermediate depths. The surrounding deep seafloor is also diversified by a major ridge-trough system. en_NZ
