dc.description.abstract The research project was divided into two parts. The first part studied travel patterns and social attitudes towards land transport issues pertaining to Victoria University of Wellington's Kelburn Campus, from a sample of staff and students, in July and August 1995. The questionnaire which contained questions that were both opinionative and factual in nature, was answered by 1,381 respondent's of a sample of 1,500. There were eighteen questions arranged into four sections: (i) Personal Information (age, gender, occupation, type of area of residence); (ii) Journey Patterns (travel time, main mode of transport, public transport use, motor vehicle ownership, arrival and departure times); (iii) Parking Study (turnover, short and long term, on and off street); (iv) Statements relating to a variety of land transport issues pertaining to the University (public transport, taxi and bicycle travel, parking environmental impacts). The second part studied University parking demand and also identified relationships between short and long term parking. It was carried out on 9th August 1995 by photographic and physical counting means. The information from the surveys have been analysed to provide information for future transport planning by the University's Transport Committee, in particular, and by Wellington's local government and transport companies, more generally. This report is capable of further analysis to derive information of social and urban planning concern. en_NZ
