In recent years, much attention has been directed to the part that investment plays in the economic system and much has been written concerning the advantages of controlling or influencing the volume of new investment in order to assist recovery from a period of depression or to prevent unwarranted expansion of business which might cause a later decline and lead to depression conditions.
This control however is difficult to exercise in New Zealand, owing to the fact that the money market and industry are not developed to the same extent as in other countries.
In this thesis. The State Advances Corporation will be examined in order to ascertain the influence that its policy can exercise on New Zealand's economy and the extent that this policy can be employed in order to control the volume of new investment. |
