dc.description.abstract Over the past thirty years a number of workers have recorded the infrared and Raman spectra of ethylene oxide-d4, (ref. 1-13). Assignments have been proposed by; Linnet, Kistiakowsky and Rice, Thompson and Cave, Lord and Nolin and most recently by Potts. These workers agree on the assignment of the A1 and B2 vibrations but the assignments for the A2 and B1 modes are uncertain. In 1950 Gunthard, using the assignments and Raman data of Kohlrausch and Reitz evaluated three potential constants and Venkateswarlu and Thyagarajan using the data of Lord and Nolin refined fourteen valence type force constants. In 1968 Wray, also using the data of Lord and Nolin and the diagonal constants obtained by other workers, refined twelve of the off diagonal force constants. en_NZ
