dc.description.abstract 1,4,8,11-tetraazaundecane is able to form nickel (II) complexes with the tetramine in both planar and folded configurations. The absolute configuration of the folded complexes can be inferred from infra-red spectra. Various methods of preparation of 1,4,8,11-tetraazaundecane are reported. These were made in an attempt to increase the percentage yield of previous methods. The preparation of nickel (II) and copper (II) complexes of a new Schiff base macrocycle 2,4,4-trimethyl-1,5,8,12-tetraazacyclotetradeca-l-ene are described. The macrocycle is able to exist in both planar and folded configurations and some discussion of possible structures is made. An unsuccessful attempt to reduce the macrocycle is reported. en_NZ
