dc.description.abstract This thesis describes the isomerisation of hexynes and hexadienes using potassium t - butoxide as the catalyst. It was found that isomerisation could be explained by a stepwise process with carbanion intermediates. Based on the results obtained from this work and information supplied by others a probable energy profile for the hexynes and hexadienes was established. Suggestions are also given for future study. en_NZ
