dc.description.abstract Four different molten salts were studied as potential media for the reduction of organic substrates by hydrogen. Two of these, zinc chloride and a thiocyanate eutectic, proved to be suitable media for such an interaction. Subsequent investigations with the molten eutectic concentrated on improving the reaction's yield and analysing its products. This analysis suggested that some novel processes were occurring in the molten salt medium. en_NZ
