dc.description.abstract Frequent Journeys over the Rimutaka road revealed differences in the vegetation, which were thought to be due to wind. An area near Mt Rimutaka was chosen for detailed study because of its reputation for being subject to very heavy winds. A stout timber breakwind has been erected beside a portion of the road and a notice warns motorists - "Beware of the wind". The area lies on the southern side of the main road about a quarter of a mile west of the Summit (Maps 1 and 2). en_NZ
