The aim of this paper is to trace the course of regeneration of native lowland forest on a certain portion of the western hills of the Hutt Valley north of Wellington (New Zealand).
The study was carried out during the period
February to October 1949. This is admittedly all too short a time in which to study the dynamics of regeneration. However, I have reason to believe that a comprehensive idea
of the course of regeneration will be obtained by studying the different communities that appear to be part of the sequence of succession, by analysing the components of such communities, by studying the environmental factors as far as possible and by est1mating the age of existing
plants. |
