dc.description.abstract Throughout the history of botanical discovery, domatia have received very little notice from botanists. The majority of both morphological and taxonomic botanical texts fail even to record the existence of these structures although they are of macroscopic size and are not uncommon. There have been comparatively few papers published on the detailed structure of domatia. They describe mature domatia, including usually the external form, but not always the internal anatomy as seen in section. A couple of papers (Hamilton 1896, Greensill 1902) describe domatia of young leaves, but most do not include origin and development at all. en_NZ
