dc.description.abstract Aims To examine and compare the vegetation and soils on areas of calcareous and noncalcareous rock. Choice of Locality The Owen Range area, Nelson Province, was chosen for study as providing:- a) adjacent areas of marble, schist and granite, all at a comparable altitude, with a similar aspect, and sufficiently extensive for sampling purposes; b) botanical interest, especially in the marble areas; c) a botanically little-known area with little history of disturbance by man. en_NZ
