Item Restricted Russian constructivist architecture(Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, 1993) Crozier, SarahThis report is an historical analysis of the constructivist architectural movement in Russia from 1915 - 1932. It explores and describes constructivist architecture in terms of ideology and formal strategy. The discussion is categorized into themes that are given context by an historical overview and discussed with reference to examples of constructivist work. The hypothesis "that formal strategies are informed by cultural and theoretical context" directs the analysis. The result was generally affirmative but the hypothesis was found to be limited in its description of the complex situation and inappropriate as a prescriptive statement. Further, connections between constructivist and contemporary deconstructivist architecture are mainly formal, the corresponding theory differs between the schools.
